MAKE YOUR NEXT SCIENCE FAIR ACTIVATIONAL

Visioneers can bring an Activational amount of “cool” to your school!

And we can bring it to a classroom, an auditorium, or via a long-distance Skype video call or Conference.

How cool would it be to learn to “see” in the dark just like bats, dolphins and some toothed whales? And yes, even movie action-heroes like Daredevil.

We can fashion Activational Workshops to enhance students’ understanding of  related subjects. There so much to learn about the Science of FlashSonar, the Biology of how it works in humans and animals as well as the History and Social Studies aspects of how sighted people have treated blind people over the years, and the Geography aspects of what we’ve learned in the 40+ countries where we’ve provided services.

And just imagine the future benefits that could result from students “walking in a blind person’s shoes” by being blindfolded and learning how to navigate in the “dark” using FlashSonar™ echolocation and a full-length Perception Cane. These future lawmakers, budget planners and social services adjudicators would, hopefully,  bring more insightful knowledge, understanding, empathy and compassion by making informed decisions related to things like Special Education funding, implementing Universal Design, promoting Equalism in all aspects of daily living and standing as pillars in society to support the human right of blind persons to claim their freedom of access to achieve and contribute as equal citizens.

It’s very cool how much you can see and learn from the “dark unknown”. Book some “cool for your school”! Call or eMail us:

MAKE YOUR CLASS ACTIVATIONAL

Senior Visioneer Brian Bushway presents an in-class workshop on FlashSonar echolocation.
Senior Visioneer Brian Bushway brings the Science of "Seeing With Sound" to an Elementary classroom in Los Angeles.

Get Your Students Visioneering

We introduce students to the rudimentary elements involved in FlashSonar™ echolocation through a number of sonic exercises, as well as teaching them how to produce a tongue click, or how to use a supplementary clicker or musical castanet to produce the “flash” of sound that will echo back to their ears from their surrounding environment.

We supplement this with video examples of bats and dolphins echolocating, as well as animations that visualize the unseen sonar waves and how their returning echo waves activate the part of the brain used in seeing – the Visual Cortex.

Students also get to see the impact of our work with blind students in their peer group in various countries around the world, and through blindfold exercises, get to “walk in their shoes” to provide them with more insights into the sensory challenges faced by children, and also how they can learn to overcome them.

Our workshops can be customized to suit the grade level and curricula level so that every student gains equal understanding of what’s involved in learning to see in a new way.

Feel free to call or eMail us anytime for more information, or to book an in-class workshop:

VISIONEERING VIA SKYPE OR FACETIME

Workshop Visioneer J. Steele-Louchart appears via Skype on a big-screen monitor at the front of a Middle-school Science class where students are able to interact with him.

How to Visioneer in two places at once.

Sometimes schedules or budgets don’t always allow us to be everywhere we’re wanted, but we’re happy to facilitate distance learning via Skype, FaceTime or other apps that allow us to interact with students where-ever they may be.

That’s exactly what enabled Workshop Visioneer J. Steele-Louchart visit with students in Nicole Bolduc‘s Grade 7 NGSS Science class across the miles. (NGSS stands for Next Generation Science Standards which is a multi-state effort to create new education standards that are “rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education.”)

The students had already been studying sound and the dynamics of FlashSonar™ echolocation and were thrilled to connect with J. They, along with other staff members were so inspired they even held a fundraising drive for our non-profit and donated $600.

Thank you Nicole for your creative approach to Science and to your great students for their genuine interest in, and support of, our work!

Curricula-Relevant Activational Presentations

Make your events Activational, whether at the Elementary, Middle or High School levels or at the Post-Secondary level. We can Visioneer customized presentations across many subject areas related to the work we do, such as the Biology, History and Science of animal and human Echolocation, Daniel Kish’s refinement and expansion of it into FlashSonar™ as a teachable methodology for blind navigation.

If your school is planning a Science Fair, you can commission customized workshops that let students of any grade-level experience learning how to see in a new way, and the tactical reasoning and problem-solving of finding your way in the dark, and applying the same reasoning to challenges at home, school or, eventually, in the workplace.

Our collective 140+ years of blindness experience also enables us to cover Social Studies and Geography-related topics based on our innovative work in over 40 countries around the world, providing insights into the challenges and achievements that blind persons experience in different countries.

Let us know what you’ve got planned for your school or campus and we can help you turn it into a memorable Activational Event! Call or eMail us:

Have your attendees learn to see through the dark unknown of various challenges

Education isn’t just about passively learning what someone tells you. We can tell you what it’s like to be blind, but we can’t teach you what it feels like. We can facilitate Plenary sessions and Workshops in addition to Conference Keynotes which let you teach yourself what it’s like to learn to see in the dark.

It’s part of our philosophy to enable blind persons to achieve self-directed freedom of access and movement to guide themselves through the joys and challenges of life.

Our Visioneers have presented at Educational and Scientific Conferences and Symposia around the world to consistent testimonial kudos. Browse through our list of some of them and then call or eMail us to discuss how we can custom tailor an Opening or Closing Keynote and complementary Plenary sessions and Workshops to make your gathering truly Activational.
